Triple Crown terminal passes three-year mark without serious employee injury

Triple Crown Services Co.'s Fort Wayne, Ind., maintenance and repair facility recently marked three-straight years without a lost-time accident.
Operating 24/7 and maintaining about 85 trailers per day, the facility employs 50 people, including 37 mechanics. Employees perform various work, such as welding, and wheel and mechanical repairs.
A Norfolk Southern Corp. subsidiary, Triple Crown recently doubled the facility's size and hired more mechanics. Later this fall, the intermodal service provider plans to complete a $20 million purchase of 800 RoadRailer® trailers to expand its fleet to more than 6,500 units.
"This is labor-intensive work, often heavy, and sometimes not in the best conditions," said Terminal Manager Rick Vanke in a prepared statement. "Combine that with the construction we've had all summer and the additional trailers moving through here, and it all adds up to quite an accomplishment."
