Watco Transportation Services joins the AAR

Yesterday, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) announced that Watco Transportation Services Inc. (WTS) has become its newest full member.

Established in 1983, WTS is the nation’s third-largest short-line operator with a roster of 22 small railroads operating in 18 states. WTS is owned by Watco Cos. Inc., which also owns a Watco Mechanical Services division that operates 14 rail-car repair shops, four locomotive shops and 19 mobile mechanical shops; and a Watco Transload and Intermodal Services division that manages 12 transload facilities, seven warehouses and one intermodal facility.

As a full AAR member, WTS will have access to all association services, and its employees will be eligible to serve on AAR committees and the association’s board.
