Updates from Bombardier, Chicago Freight Car Leasing, e-VERIFILE.COM, AECOM and Skelly and Loy


• Bombardier Transportation obtained a $140 million contract from Deutsche Bahn AG to supply another 22 BOMBARDIER TALENT 2 trains. The number of TALENT 2 trains ordered by Deutsche Bahn now totals 98. The new trains will be deployed on the E-Netz beginning in 2011. The TALENT units will be used as both regional express and regional trains, comprising five three-car, nine four-car and eight five-car trains.

• Chicago Freight Car Leasing Co. has named Jim Kennedy sales director. Most recently vice president of marketing for Compass Capital Corp., he has 20 years of rail-car leasing experience. Kennedy previously was senior sales manager for GE Railcar and regional sales manager for Itel Rail Corp.   

• e-VERIFILE.COM has signed on Central California Traction Co. and Farmrail System Inc. as e-RAILSAFE SHORTLINE service users — the 6th and 7th railroads to join the Web-based service, according to e-VERIFILE.COM. The service facilitates railroad workforce, contractor and safety/security management functions.

• AECOM has named Albrecht Engel vice president and U.S. high-speed rail director for its transportation practice. He previously was a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley Co., and served as president and chief executive officer of SYSTRA Consulting. Engel also was a program manager for GE’s high-speed locomotive procurement program with Amtrak, held various leadership positions with several East Coast consulting firms specializing in public transportation and served as a consultant to the California High Speed Rail Authority. He currently is an American Public Transportation Association (APTA) board member and serves on the leadership team of APTA’s High Speed and Intercity Passenger Rail Committee.

• Engineering firm Skelly and Loy has named Joshua Weiand environmental engineer, and elected Sandy Basehore and Gerry Longenecker to its board. Skelly and Loy also made Terry Schmidt an associate of the firm and announced that Environmental Specialist Kevin Starner has earned the designation of certified environmental professional.
