Union Pacific Railroad has been named to Fortune magazine's 2023 list of the world's most admired companies.

UP is the highest ranked railroad in the trucking, transportation and logistics category, UP officials said in a press release.

Fortune and research partner Korn Ferry surveyed executives, directors and analysts to rate enterprises in their own industry on criteria such as investment value, quality of management and products and social responsibility. This is the 17th time in 21 years that UP has been named to the list.

UP received the highest score in the social responsibility category, UP officials said.

"This honor underscores Union Pacific’s commitment to safety, efficiency and innovation in our operations," said Chairman, President and CEO Lance Fritz.

Meanwhile, Forbes named VIA Rail Canada Inc. as one of Canada's best employers for 2023.

Forbes analyzed and surveyed employees of 2,900 Canadian organizations in partnership with market research firm Statista. VIA Rail was named the top employer "in the business of transporting people," VIA Rail officials said in a press release.

"VIA Rail has an environment where caring, employment equity, diversity and inclusion are essential to our values of creating positive experiences for both our customers and our colleagues," said Senior Director Employee Experience France Toulouse.
