Tranz Rail eyes express container service
advertisement
On Oct. 29, Tranz Rail Holdings Ltd. plans to launch Sprint, an express container service from Auckland to Wellington, New Zealand.
Trains would leave Auckland at 8 p.m. and arrive in Wellington at 7 a.m., Monday through Friday.
Tranz Rail has earmarked 20 rail cars that can accommodate 40-, 20- or 10- foot containers. The railroad would operate Sprint trains at 55 mph instead of the railroad's typical 50 mph top speed.
Officials plan to add a return Wellington-to-Auckland service if Sprint is successful, according to a prepared statement.
