Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
On Monday, Sound Transit will host an open house to provide information on a project designed to extend Central Link light-rail service to downtown Seattle.
The project includes temporarily closing the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel, which is scheduled to begin in September. The tunnel will be closed for up to two years so the structure can be retrofitted to accommodate both light-rail trains and buses.
Sound Transit and other agencies currently are completing $16 million worth of projects designed to mitigate the effects of the light-rail construction in the downtown area, such as dedicating a street as a transit-only thoroughfare during peak commute periods and improving downtown signal systems.
