Amtrak plans to restore the 13th daily Pacific Surfliner roundtrip between Los Angeles and San Diego, beginning Jan. 26.

The move brings Pacific Surfliner service levels back to pre-pandemic frequency of 13 daily roundtrips between Los Angeles and San Diego, five daily roundtrips between San Diego and Goleta and two full-corridor, 351-mile daily roundtrips between San Diego and San Luis Obispo, Amtrak officials said in a press release.

The service restoration is supported by a $27.1 million Federal Railroad Administration Restoration and Enhancement grant, they added.

Meanwhile, to commemorate the United States' 250th birthday this year, Amtrak is discounting its USA Rail Pass from $499 to $250 for tickets booked between Jan. 14 and Jan. 20 on select routes. Travel must be within a select time period from purchase and only applies to coach seats. More information on the USA Rail Pass can be found here.
