Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Later this month, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will hold four public meetings to provide information and obtain feedback on the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (SEIR) for the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) extension to the Silicon Valley.
The report identifies environmental impacts for design changes proposed since VTA’s board signed off on the Final EIR in December 2004. The agency will incorporate feedback on the Draft SEIR into the Final SEIR, which is scheduled to be complete in 2008.
The 16-mile BART extension includes six stations, a maintenance facility and five-mile tunnel through downtown San Jose. VTA expects to launch construction in 2009 and revenue service, in 2016.
