Port security: Transentric's software helps identify incoming carrier's crew, cargo

Using a grant from the Delaware River Maritime Enterprise Council (DRMEC), Transentric L.L.C. recently developed R.I.S.K. Alert®, software designed to enable law enforcement agencies to obtain real-time information on an ocean vessel's crew, as well as information on a carrier's equipment and shipment's cargo from origin to destination (including movement by truck or rail).

Transentric plans to complete testing on the software next month.

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Maritime Administration and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania provided funds for R.I.S.K. Alert, and several federal, state and local law-enforcement agencies provided information vital to protecting ports.

The software could serve as a one-stop data collection point for parties required to provide security-related information to many different agencies, and make data available to all appropriate agencies, DRMEC officials believe.

R.I.S.K. Alert also could serve as an auditing tool for U.S. Customs Service's Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism program.
