Operation Lifesaver Inc. (OLI) last week released its 2024 annual report, detailing how the organization helped to improve rail safety last year.
The interactive report highlights its public awareness campaigns, education materials, volunteer engagement and partnerships designed to improve rail safety, OLI officials said in a press release.
In 2024, OLI administered $620,000 in competitive rail safety awareness grants to Operation Lifesaver programs in 33 states. The Federal Railroad Administration and Posner Foundation of Pittsburgh provided $220,000 toward grants in 11 states, and the Federal Highway Administration provided $400,000 for grants in 22 states.
Also last year, OLI released two new public service announcements (PSAs) for school bus driver training courses; gained new state coordinators in six states and Washington, D.C.; launched a pledge push for the organization's Transit Safety Pledge Campaign; and shared two new #STOPTrackTragedies PSAs and videos highlighting personal stories from people affected by rail incidents.
In addition, OLI's Railroad Investigation and Safety Course for first responders was certified last year by the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training national certification program.
