The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) announced that the CapeFLYER commuter-rail service had a 7% increase in ridership over the prior year.
This year, 16,045 passengers travelled between Boston and Hyannis on summer weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
The CapeFLYER is operated in a partnership between Keolis, the CCRTA, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and the MBTA to improve access to Cape Cod for residents and visitors.
The service connects Boston’s South Station, Braintree, Brockton, Lakeville, Wareham, Buzzards Bay, Bourne, and Hyannis stops.
“This season’s ridership numbers confirm what we’ve known for years – the CapeFLYER has become an essential part of the Cape Cod summer experience,” said CCRTA Administrator John Kennedy in a press release. “More and more travelers are choosing to skip the bridge traffic and enjoy a relaxing ride to the Cape.”
