The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has proposed using a portion of its $18.5 million fiscal-year 2006 budget surplus to improve system cleanliness, service and reliability.
The authority plans to spend $13.7 million to add call center representatives; improve maps and area information in stations; hire additional track, rail-car cleaning, station maintenance and rail maintenance workers; improve station lighting; repair onboard and station public-address systems; and expand evening service on the Proctor Creek Line.
Next month, MARTA will hold public hearings to obtain feedback on the proposal.
