France’s Transports de l’Agglomération de Montpellier (TAM) recently awarded a $70.5 million contract to ALSTOM Transport to provide 24 CITADIS trams for an 11.8-mile tramway extension.
The contract includes options to add 32-foot extensions to the 98-foot trams and order more trams. ALSTOM supplied 30 CITADIS trams for TAM’s initial tramway line, which began service in July 2000. Traveling at speeds up to 43 mph, the low-floor vehicles have the capacity to carry 211 passengers.
Under a separate $7.3 million contract, ALSTOM will supply overhead power for half the line and maintain it for 10 years.
