FRA considers matching OSHA's accident/incident reporting methods
advertisement
On Oct. 9, Federal Railroad Administration issued a notice of proposed rulemaking concerning the agency's plan to conform its accident/incident reporting to that of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Similar reporting would enable FRA and OSHA to compare railroad data on occupational fatalities, injuries and illnesses with other industries, integrate railroad-industry data into national statistical databases and enhance the quality of available information for railroad casualty analyses, according to FRA's notice.
FRA also proposes other accident reporting amendments, as well as minor changes to its alcohol and drug regulations, and locomotive engineer qualification regulations.
FRA will accept written comments on its proposed rulemaking and public hearing requests until Nov. 8.
