Federal Railroad Administration and the International Union of Railways (UIC) recently signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on railroad security issues, according to Association of American Railroads.

The agreement is a result of two post-Sept. 11, 2001, rail security meetings between FRA and UIC held in Fukuoka, Japan, and New York City.

The memorandum includes a framework for joint initiatives that would focus on such subjects as information exchanges, technological research, crisis management and hazardous-materials transportation.
