ECOTRANS' APUs to be installed on new GE locomotives
advertisement
ECOTRANS Technologies L.L.C., CSX Transportation and GE Transportation Systems (GETS) Sept. 20 announced plans to jointly develop and deploy ECOTRANS' auxiliary power units (APU) on GETS-manufactured locomotives.
The APU system, an Environmental Protection Agency-certified emission-reducing kit, is designed to keep oil and water warm while the main engine is shut down, and provide auxiliary power for conventional 120/240V AC applications.
The system also can help reduce locomotive engine idling time, which would lower idling fuel consumption about 80 percent and idle emissions about 98 percent, according to a prepared statement.
The companies plan in the near future to market the APUs for locomotive retrofit packages as well as new-unit installations.
