Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Citizens for Rail Safety Inc. recently launched www.citizensforrailsafety.org, a Web site designed to provide information on rail safety for the public, businesses, government and legal profession.
A non-profit organization, Citizens for Rail Safety aims to improve rail safety throughout the United States by providing academic research, monitoring and reporting railroad accidents, and soliciting recommendations from safety experts on ways railroads can improve safety.
“It is our intention to make safety the No. 1 priority of the rail industry,” said Citizens for Rail Safety Executive Director Patricia Abbate in a prepared statement. “It is not acceptable to know that on average, a train strikes a pedestrian or a vehicle approximately every two hours.”
In conjunction with the Northeastern University College of Business Administration, Citizens for Rail Safety plans to release a research paper that will address rail financing and capacity issues, and concerns associated with moving freight via the existing U.S. rail system.
