CN logged its best February on record for grain movements, shipping more than 2.67 million metric tons of grain from western Canada.

Building on its strong start to the year, CN continued to demonstrate its ability to meet heightened seasonal demand during peak grain shipping periods, CN officials said in a press release.

As grain volumes typically accelerate through the winter months following harvest, CN positions resources and works with grain customers and supply chain partners to support farmers in moving Canadian grain to domestic and global markets, they added.

Meanwhile, CPKC announced it broke its February monthly record for transporting Canadian grain and grain products by moving 2.23 million metric tons last month.

The Class I's new February achievement beat the previous tonnage record set in February 2021. Last month's 23,088 carloads also set a new February monthly record, beating the previous high set in February 2021, according to a CPKC press release.

"This is the second straight monthly Canadian grain record and it continues a strong start to 2026 as our railroaders work safely and efficiently with our supply chain collaborators to move a record grain crop across Western Canada," said Elizabeth Hucker, vice president of sales and marketing bulk at CPKC.
