At month’s end, BNSF Railway Co. plans to begin upgrading a Thayer Subdivision line between Teed, Mo., and Memphis, Tenn.
To be completed in late April, the $12.75 million project calls for replacing about 30 track miles of rail and 15,000 ties. About 250 workers will use various pieces of equipment, such as cranes, welders and ballast tampers, to replace rail at a rate of nearly one mile per day.
“Our lines to Memphis through southern Missouri and Arkansas are especially important as they represent a vital link to the southeast for intermodal and coal shipments,” said BNSF Vice President of Engineering Dave Freeman in a prepared statement.
