Amtrak, PennDOT continue to reconstruct the Keystone Corridor

Amtrak and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) recently announced schedule changes on the Keystone Corridor to accommodate track construction between Philadelphia and Lancaster, Pa.
The agencies are in the midst of a $145 million project designed to rebuild the corridor. Once the project is complete in fall 2006, Amtrak will provide electric-powered train service between Harrisburg and Philadelphia, reducing trip times from 115 minutes to 90 minutes for express service and 125 minutes to 105 minutes for standard service.
Later this year, Amtrak and PennDOT will rebuild two main tracks between Parkesburg and Lancaster, and begin reconstructing main tracks between Paoli and Philadelphia.
During FY2005’s first half, ridership on the corridor has risen 13 percent to 514,000 passengers compared with 454,000 passengers during the same 2004 period.
