Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The American Public Transportation Association and Smart Card Alliance recently formed the Transportation Council, which aims to promote contactless, interoperable smart card payment systems for transit services.
The council will develop projects designed to increase smart-card payment programs in the transportation industry and analyze how transportation payment systems can be linked to other payment systems using multi-application smart-card technology.
Open to representatives from suppliers and transit organizations, the council will be managed by a steering committee co-chaired by Mike Dinning, chief-infrastructure protection and operations division of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Volpe Center, and Greg Garback, executive officer-finance for Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
