Ward named president of CSX Corp.

Managing a Class I railroad no longer is Michael Ward’s only responsibility.

On July 10, CSX Corp.'s board elected Ward president of the entire corporation. In addition to CSX Transportation, two other CSX business units — CSX Intermodal and CSX Technology — now report to Ward.

"Michael Ward has led an impressive turnaround at CSX Transportation since taking charge of rail operations in early 2000," said CSX Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John Snow in a prepared statement. "Rail service has improved dramatically, our business is growing and earnings are on the upswing. … The entire organization is aligned toward achieving ambitious goals."

Ward has spent his entire 25-year business career at CSXT and predecessor roads. Prior to being named CSXT president in December 2000, he served as executive vice president-operations. Before that, he wore several hats, from heading the coal business unit and managing Conrail merger planning to serving as chief financial officer.

"CSX today is very much a rail-based company and this appointment marks an important step in our process to assure a smooth leadership transition in the future," Snow said.
