BNSF enables short lines to tap its event-reporting technology for free

Burlington Northern Santa Fe recently began providing an Internet application designed to enable short lines and other small connecting carriers to report freight movements to Association of American Railroads.

One of BNSF's Web-enabled iPower tools designed for customers and service partners, the free-of-charge online application is designed to provide event-reporting capability for carriers that can't afford the technology.

"We realize that growth opportunities will be tougher than ever to realize for those carriers unable to report car locations and movements with real-time efficiency," said Jerry Johnson, BNSF assistant vice president, short lines, in a prepared statement.
