STB doles out numerous decisions at open-voting conference

At an open-voting conference held May 9, Surface Transportation Board issued 21 decisions, including:

• approval of Riverview Trenton Railroad Co.'s plan to operate an intermodal terminal and line in Wayne County, Mich.;

• rejection of Norfolk Southern Railway's request to admit updated traffic-data as evidence in a rate case filed against the railroad by Carolina Power & Light Co.;

• a determination that Maine Central Railroad Co., Springfield
Terminal Railway Co. and Guilford Transportation Industries Inc. failed to provide service over a line as requested by shipper Pejepscot Industrial Park Inc.;

• a ruling that CSX Transportation did not act unlawfully by failing to repair a damaged bridge on a line near Memphis;

• a determination that the board's approval is not required for Metro-North Commuter Railroad Co. to acquire and operate a line owned by Pennsylvania Lines L.L.C., and leased and operated by NS;

• approval of Southwest Gulf Railroad Co.'s plan to construct and operate a seven-mile line in Medina County, Texas; and

• approval of Gulf & Ohio Railways Holding Co. Inc.'s request to continue to control Chattahoochee & Gulf Railroad (CGR) and various other roads once CGR acquires and begins to operate a 24.2-mile line owned by Central of Georgia Railroad Co.
