Yesterday, New Jersey Transit adopted a $1.5 billion operating and $1.3 billion capital budget for fiscal-year 2007, which began July 1.

The agency increased the operating budget by $1 million compared with FY2006. The budget includes funds to operate Hudson-Bergen light-rail service to Tonnelle Avenue, which was launched in February, and Newark light-rail service to Broad Street Station, which was launched last month.

The capital budget includes $105 million to continue work on the Trans-Hudson Express Tunnel, which will enable passenger trains to travel between New York City and New Jersey; $158 million to upgrade commuter-rail infrastructure; $51 million to improve light-rail and bus infrastructure and equipment; $54 million for system-wide improvements, such as upgrading technology; and $35 million for station improvements.
