Valley Metro boards name new leaders

The Valley Metro Regional Public Transportation Authority (RPTA) board has elected Thelda Williams as chair for fiscal year 2016-17.
Williams currently serves as a Phoenix city council member.
In addition, the board named Suzanne Klapp and Lauren Tolmachoff vice chair and treasurer, respectively. Klapp is a city council member in Scottsdale, Ariz.; Tolmachoff, a city council member in Glendale, Ariz.
The board is composed of elected officials from 15 cities and towns and Maricopa County, Ariz.

Meanwhile, Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell was named chair of the Valley Metro Rail board, and Mesa Vice Mayor Dennis Kavanaugh was named vice chair.
Valley Metro Rail plans, constructs, operates and maintains the light-rail system in the greater Phoenix area. Its board is composed of five member cities who provide policy direction for rail service.
