Trogdon to step down as North Carolina DOT's chief operations officer

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) on Tuesday announced Chief Deputy Secretary of Operations Jim Trogdon plans to retire from state government on Oct. 31 to work in the private sector.

He has accepted a position as a vice president of Atkins, a design, engineering and project management firm. The company serves as a general engineering consultant to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Trogdon previously was a NCDOT field engineer and served in other leadership capacities before being named the department's chief operations officer in 2009.

"I want to thank Jim for his selfless service to our department as a professional engineer and to our state as a National Guard soldier," said North Carolina Transportation Secretary Tony Tata in a press release.

NCDOT plans to name an interim chief of operations at a later date.
