TriMet names Kelsey chief operating officer

The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) has hired Doug Kelsey to serve as the agency's chief operating officer.

He'll lead TriMet's transportation, maintenance and information technology divisions, and have some responsibility for the safety and security division, agency officials said in a press release.

Kelsey comes to TriMet after serving as president and general manager of the British Columbia Rapid Transit Company Ltd., a subsidiary of TransLink. Kelsey will replace Robert Nelson, who has plans to retire.

Scheduled to take up his new duties Nov. 30, Kelsey will also provide critical transportation and urban planning leadership and analysis. He'll have executive management responsibility for deploying capital projects as they become operational, TriMet officials said.

"Doug brings to TriMet more than 16 years experience in the transit industry and he is a welcome and valuable addition to our team," said TriMet General Manager Neil McFarlane. "He will lead our continuing efforts to improve the reliability and quality of our bus and rail service, as well as oversee the expansion of our system to meet the growing demand for transit."
