Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chair and CEO Janno Lieber has named Thomas Taffe chief of the New York transit system's police department.

Taffe has served as MTA PD's interim chief for the past four months. He has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, including more than two years as MTA PD's chief of operations. As police chief, he will oversee the 1,400-member MTA PD that is responsible for patrolling and securing the MTA’s operating region.

Taffe joined the MTA PD after serving more than 27 years in the New York City Police Department. He was sworn in as police chief yesterday.

"With his 30 years of law enforcement experience, including an exceptionally strong background in strategic management, I have no doubt Tom Taffe is the right person to steer the MTA PD,” Lieber said in a press release.
