CSX President and CEO Joe Hinrichs yesterday was awarded the Thompson S. Baker Award during the Junior Achievement of North Florida's annual Hall of Fame event.

The award recognizes leaders who have made significant contributions to business and education in Jacksonville, where CSX is based. Named after Thompson S. Baker, founder of Florida Rock Industries, the award pays tribute to his enduring legacy of selfless service and commitment to bettering the Jacksonville community, according to a CSX press release.

Since joining CSX in September 2022, Hinrichs has spearheaded initiatives that elevate both business excellence and community engagement. His advocacy for education and development programs has created a lasting impact across the region, said CSX officials.

Under Hinrichs’ guidance, CSX has remained committed to positively impacting the communities it serves, particularly in its hometown of Jacksonville.

CSX contributions over the past two years include a $10 million donation to the University of Florida, a $1 million commitment to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens and a $10 million contribution to the Museum of Science and History. Those efforts exemplify Hinrichs’ emphasis on fostering educational opportunities, workforce development and revitalizing local neighborhoods, according to CSX.

"Leadership is about serving others," said Hinrichs. "No matter where you are in life, if you focus on serving other people, you’re going to be successful."
