Today, Canadian National Railway Co. announced David Edison will head a transition team responsible for integrating BC Rail Ltd. into the Class I's operations.
A 38-year railroading veteran, Edison has experience in operations, rail-car and locomotive maintenance, and senior management. For the past four years, he's served CN as vice president, Pacific Division, responsible for operations, engineering and regional sales in Alberta and British Columbia. Edison previously served in various senior positions within CN's Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia territories.
He now will be responsible for integrating BC Rail's employees and operations into CN — a process that's expected to take up to three years to complete. Edison also will oversee construction of CN’s wheel shop in Prince George; the realignment of rail yards in North Vancouver, Squamish and Prince George; reconnection of CN’s Hythe-to-Dawson Creek line; and workforce planning. He will report to Peter Marshall, senior vice president of CN's Western Canada Region.
"Dave brings seasoned judgment and sound leadership to his new assignment, as well as extensive knowledge and understanding of BC Rail, the shippers it serves, its employees and the communities they live in," said CN President and Chief Executive Officer E. Hunter Harrison in a prepared statement.
Subject to Canada Competition Bureau approval, the BC Rail transaction is expected to close in first-quarter 2004.
