VRE board elects 2015 officers

The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Operations Board last week installed its officers for 2015, including Fairfax County Supervisor John Cook as chairman.

Other elected officers are Spotsylvania County Supervisor Gary Skinner as vice chairman, Alexandria City Councilor Paul Smedberg as secretary, and Prince County Supervisor Maureen Cadigan as treasurer.

"Having such respected and knowledgeable public officials that really care about improving transportation serve as VRE Operations Board officers is a recipe for VRE's continued success," said VRE Chief Executive Officer Doug Allen in a press release.

The officers will help oversee the 10th largest commuter-rail service in the nation. VRE is a transportation partnership of the Northern Virginia and Potomac & Rappahannock transportation commissions.
