Martin, Smith assume new safety supervision roles at Watco
Watco Cos. L.L.C. has appointed Ron Martin vice president of transportation safety and training.
Most recently director of transportation safety and training, Martin has served Watco the past 15 years. He now will provide assistance and guidance to regulatory record-keeping requirements for each Watco location and work with railroads to manage Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) certification programs. Regional safety managers and safety QA managers will report to Martin.
Since he joined Watco in 1999, Martin has served as a track foreman, conductor, engineer, switching location manager, trainmaster, general manager and regional safety manager.
Watco also named Michael Smith director of engineering safety and training to succeed Martin.
Smith will work closely with the engineering team to develop and produce training materials, and be responsible for ensuring that all required track/engineering training is completed across the company's system and meets FRA requirements.
He joined Watco in 2012 as an assistant roadmaster for the Birmingham Terminal Railway and later was promoted to track training specialist.
