The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology recently conferred an honorary doctor of engineering degree to Indiana Rail Road Co. (INRD) President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Hoback.

Hoback was recommended for the honor by former Rose-Hulman President Matt Branam, who unexpectedly died in April. Branam cited Hoback’s leadership in the rail industry and praised his efforts to invest $120 million in infrastructure improvements over the past 26 years. Hoback founded INRD in 1986.

“It is clear that Rose-Hulman is keenly attuned to the railroad industry’s significance to our national infrastructure and economy, and I’m hopeful that more graduates are inspired to make their careers in railroading,” said Hoback in a prepared statement

Located in in Terre Haute, Ind., the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology offers degrees in engineering, science and mathematics.
