Yesterday, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) announced it has received approval from the Tri-State Oversight Committee (TOC) to close the book on six safety corrective action plans so far this month.
During the past six years, WMATA has received TOC’s approval to close 202 of 256 corrective action plans, WMATA officials said in a prepared statement.
In addition, WMATA “is prepared” to spend more than $30 million from the capital budget to implement additional National Transportation Safety Board recommendations, they said.
The agency’s rail and safety departments also have rewritten rules and procedures governing the operation and safety of the entire Metrorail system. In addition, WMATA’s safety department was expanded this month to 41 positions.
