Virginia Railway Express (VRE) recently approved fares increases, which will take effect June 28.
The agency will hike prices for zone increments and base fares. However, VRE also will decrease the 10-ride ticket discount to 10 percent, introduce a five-day pass available at a 20 percent discount and increase the monthly ticket discount to 33 percent.
In addition, the agency will extend ticket expiration dates from six months to one year, implement a $1 fee for weekday passengers who want to transfer to an Amtrak train and eliminate weekend cross-honorship for Amtrak weekend service.
