The Federal Transit Administration has approved the environmental review for Sound Transit’s West Seattle Link light-rail extension, allowing the transit agency to proceed with the design phase.
The 4.1-mile West Seattle Link extension project was originally approved in 2016 by voters, and the planning phase began in 2017, Sound Transit officials said in a press release.
With the environmental review approved, Sound Transit will begin engineering and design of the route and station locations, which Sound Transit's board selected in October 2024.
When completed, the extension is anticipated to serve more than 24,000 riders per day, Sound Transit officials said.
