The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority yesterday approved fare increases, most of which will take effect in January 2026.

The MTA board also approved a series of fare and ticket policy changes that will simplify transit offers and prioritize affordability on New York City Transit's subways and buses, the Long Island Rail Road and the Metro-North Railroad, MTA officials said in a press release.

The fare increases are below the inflation rate and are the result of a six-week public comment period, they said. The increases will roll out at the same time as the city's tap-to-pay technology in the new year.

The full New York City Transit fare table with details on all fare options is available to view here.

The commuter railroads' fares will increase an average of 4.5% across different lines, monthly and weekly tickets, MTA officials said. The full Metro-North fare table can be viewed here, and the full LIRR fare table can be viewed here.
