NTSB issues annual accident investigation report to Congress

Earlier this month, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) provided Congress its annual report, which summarizes accident investigations and safety recommendations from the previous year.
In 2008, the NTSB investigated 19 major accidents, including seven aviation, four rail, three highway, three marine and two pipeline; 221 regional accidents, including 206 aviation, seven highway, four marine, and four rail; and 18 international aviation accidents. The agency also issued reports on 34 major accidents, including 13 aviation, 10 rail, seven highway, three marine and one pipeline. NTSB also issued 129 safety recommendations issued and closed 67 safety recommendations.
The 2008 report includes several new sections, including a review of agency accomplishments in international outreach, information technology, and planning and performance. The report also includes enhanced graphics, maps and statistical charts.
