Metrolinx has started major construction work on the Woodbine GO station in the Etobicoke North ward of Toronto. Early construction work began last year.
Located on Highway 27 between the existing Etobicoke North and Malton GO Transit stations, the new commuter-rail station will connect to the Kitchener Line, UP Express service to Toronto Pearson International Airport, and local transit services. The new station will enable the addition of a fourth track and signaling upgrades on the Kitchener Line, Metrolinx officials said in a press release.
The station is expected to become one of the city’s busiest, projected to serve up to 7,000 daily riders by 2051, with trains arriving every 15 minutes during rush hours.
Work is now underway to build the platforms. Installation of utilities and future snow melt systems will begin in the coming months.
The station is part of Metrolinx’s ongoing plan to expand GO Transit service; funding for the new station is supported by the province of Ontario and Woodbine Entertainment Group.
Metrolinx has not yet announced a project completion date.
