Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad ratifies BLE contract

Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad (MBCR) workers recently ratified a collective bargaining agreement with Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Covering about 200 BLE-represented workers, the contract increases wages 20 percent during the next five years and provides a $1,000 signing bonus. Of the 85 percent of eligible voters who returned ballots, 82 percent favored the agreement, according to a prepared statement.
MBCR wanted the contract in place before July 1, when the railroad plans to begin operating and maintaining Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s commuter-rail system. MBTA will pay MBCR $1.07 billion during the next five years to operate the system, which previously was operated by Amtrak.
