Maryland Transit Administration to purchase locomotives
advertisement
The Maryland Transit Administration recently announced plans to purchase 26 GPS 40 locomotives from the Utah Transportation Authority.
The 3,600-horsepower diesel locomotives will be overhauled by MotivePower Inc., which will install new equipment so the units can pull longer trains. The locomotives also will meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Tier 2 standards by reducing nitrous oxide emissions by 42 percent, carbon monoxide by 70 percent and particulates by 67 percent. In addition, the locomotives will feature American Public Transportation Association-approved cabs to improve crashworthiness.
