MTA increases service on select NYCT subway lines

"These latest enhancements on the A and L lines will only help us attract more customers," said MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber.

MTA New York City Transit on Monday increased weekday service to the A and L subway lines, reducing wait times for the more than 100,000 weekday riders. The added service is the latest in a series of service improvements driven by revenue collected by the MTA's congestion relief program, MTA officials said in a press release.

On the A line, NYCT added one round trip each to the Lefferts Boulevard throughfare and Far Rockaway station terminus. On the L Line, NYCT added four roundtrips during the morning rush hour. These service increases were made possible by recent upgrades to the line's traction power system. Weekday evening rush and weekend schedules are being revised to better align service frequency with ridership, MTA officials said in a press release.

"When we launched congestion pricing, I made a promise to New Yorkers that we would deliver tangible improvements to transit service and by adding more trips on two of the busiest subway lines, we are doing just that,” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said in the press release.

The MTA's congestion relief program reduces Manhattan gridlock by tolling vehicles entering the zone, advocates believe. This both promotes the use of other forms of transit and increases MTA revenue for capital projects.

The U.S. Department of Transportation under the Trump administration has opposed the congestion toll program.
