MTA Long Island Rail Road last week unveiled completed renovations at Laurelton Station on the Far Rockaway Branch.

The Far Rockaway Branch commuter-rail service runs between New York Penn Station in Manhattan and Far Rockaway Station in Queens. The renovation modernized the 119-year-old Laurelton Station and brought it into a state of good repair, said Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials in a press release. Over 80 trains stop at Laurelton Station every day.

Station improvements included the installation of a new elevator and related electrical, communication and service upgrades; accessibility improvements to the parking lot; construction of a new tunnel to provide access to the elevator from the street; the installation of new informational kiosks, signage and CCTV cameras; construction of sidewalks, curb ramps and remaining walls; and relation of utilities, including electric, signal, communication, gas, water, sewer and storm sewer systems.

The project was supported by $15.7 million in federal funding, MTA officials said. Citnalta/Scalamandre, J.V. with Parsons Transportation Group is the designer with major sub-contractors including Bana Electric, Mid-American, Premier, Superior and Welkin.
