MBTA completes Fields Corner station rehab

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) recently finished reconstructing the Fields Corner station on the Red Line.
Part of the Dorchester Red Line Rehabilitation Program, the $30 million project called for adding new platforms to accommodate six-car trains, and installing new lighting, signage, a Charlie Card system and an updated communications and security system. The station features a new station lobby with elevators and an escalator.
Originally built in 1928, the Fields Corner station is the second of four Dorchester stations to be reconstructed. MBTA currently is reconstructing the Shawmut and Ashmont stations; a rehabilitated Savin Hill station reopened in 2005.
