Los Angeles area to begin regional universal-fare program
advertisement
Los Angeles’ Metropolitan Transportation Authority and 11 municipal bus operators Aug. 13 launched the Regional EZpass, a monthly pass which will provide transit riders unlimited travel on three rail lines and 386 bus lines serving nearly 31,000 bus stops.
Regional EZpass is the first major phase of a universal fare system planned for the area. Within three years, MTA expects to debut an electronic smart card that will be accepted as fare by the participating service providers.
The multi-operator task force that developed Regional EZpass plans to encourage Metrolink commuter rail and other counties to participate in the program.
The agencies plan to begin selling September passes Aug. 25.
