LACMTA tests train clearances on Eastside extension
advertisement
Yesterday, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) tested the first light-rail car on the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension.
The agency performed the tests to verify the proper clearances between the rail car and surrounding equipment and facilities, including 1.8-mile twin tunnels that run beneath Boyle Heights.
LACMTA plans to open the six-mile extension this summer. The line will feature eight stations — including two underground — and will run from Union Station in downtown L.A., through the Arts District/Little Tokyo and Boyle Heights, to Atlantic/Pomona Boulevards in East Los Angeles. The $898 million extension will serve one of the most densely populated and heavily transit dependent areas in Los Angeles County.
