The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (L.A. Metro) board yesterday selected a heavy-rail underground transit line option as the locally preferred alternative for the proposed Sepulveda Transit Corridor.
The project calls for the construction of a transit-rail line through Sepulveda Pass, the low mountain pass between San Fernando Valley and west Los Angeles and the location of the notoriously congested Interstate 405. Selecting the preferred alternative enables L.A. Metro to proceed with design refinement, community engagement and the environmental review process, agency officials said in a press release.
The board selected a preferred alternative that calls for a heavy-rail underground transit line between the Van Nuys Metrolink Station and the L.A. Metro E Line Expo and Sepulveda Station, modified to connect to the Van Nuys G Line Station and future East San Fernando Valley light-rail station at Van Nuys Boulevard, said agency officials said.
