Norfolk Southern Railway has added a daily direct intermodal service between Huntsville, Alabama, and the Port of Charleston, South Carolina.
The new service extends the port's reach to growing northern Alabama and middle Tennessee markets and expands rail access for importers and exporters who need stronger connections to key southeast markets, South Carolina Ports Authority officials said in a press release.
"The intermodal service between Charleston and Huntsville is a meaningful addition for our customers, as we work with our partners at Norfolk Southern to give shippers greater flexibility and speed to market at the right cost," SC Ports President and CEO Micah Mallace said. "Strong intermodal connectivity and reliable port service are key to delivering the efficiency and consistency our customers need."
SC Ports moves 25% of its volume by rail and offers daily express intermodal service and direct connectivity to Inland Ports Greer and Dillon, giving customers access to intermodal hubs in Memphis, Atlanta, Birmingham, Nashville, Charlotte and Louisville.
