L.A. MTA to begin pre-revenue testing on Metro Gold Line extension

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) soon will take the last step before opening the six-mile Metro Gold Line light-rail extension to East L.A. On Oct. 4, LACMTA will begin the pre-revenue testing phase.
The pre-revenue runs will simulate revenue service operations on the new segment and synchronize trains with those already operating between Union Station and Sierra Madre Villa Station in East Pasadena. Pre-revenue testing, which could last more than a month, will familiarize Metro train operators and train control staff with simulated service, LACMTA officials said in a prepared statement.
During pre-revenue service, trains will run during peak hours every seven minutes to eight minutes in the morning and afternoon, every 12 minutes at mid-day and every 20 minutes at night.
In July 2004, LACMTA launched construction on the Metro Gold Line Eastside extension, which includes eight new stations. The agency expects to open the line this fall.
